Why Vetting Matters

Signing with the wrong agency can cost you months of income and damage your brand. The right questions separate legitimate agencies from operators who take your cut and deliver nothing.

A good agency will welcome these questions. If they get defensive or vague, that is your answer right there.

Questions About Their Track Record

Ask how many creators they currently manage. Ask for the revenue range of their top and bottom performers. Ask how long their average creator stays with them. A high turnover rate means creators are not happy.

Ask if you can speak with a current creator they manage. Not a testimonial on their website, an actual conversation. Any agency worth signing with will connect you.

Questions About the Contract

What is the contract length? What is the termination clause? Is there a notice period? What happens to content created during the partnership if you leave? These are not details. They are deal-breakers.

The best contracts are month-to-month or have a 30-day exit clause. If an agency requires 6-12 month commitments with penalties for early termination, think very carefully about why they need to lock you in.

Questions About Day-to-Day Operations

How will they handle your DMs? What is their response time target? How often will you get performance reports? Who is your main point of contact? What happens if you are unhappy with a decision they made?

You want specific answers, not vague promises. "We will grow your account" is not an answer. "We aim for 15% month-over-month subscriber growth through daily Reddit posts and weekly Twitter campaigns" is an answer.

The Revenue Split Conversation

What percentage do they take? Is it on gross or net revenue? Does the percentage change as you grow? Are there any additional fees for services like content editing or ad spend?

Some agencies charge 30% but include everything. Others charge 20% but then add fees for "premium" services. Make sure you understand the total cost, not just the headline number.
